**Reason for Rehoming and for the $300 price tag at the bottom of the description.
Bambi is most likely a Shepherd/Terrier mix. She’s a young female, turned 1.5 years old this month, 33lbs, not microchipped and intact (not spayed), updated rabies vaccine with updated veterinarian information available and access to the Veterinarian as well.
She’s healthy with no physical issues. She is very sweet and affectionate, loves belly rubs. She doesn’t have much experience with other dogs but is friendly and playful when I’ve introduced her to my dog, Maxine, which is a Mini Golden Doodle, and I have videos of them playing very well together, they can go for 1-2hours of playing in the backyard.
*But Bambi does have reactivity to other dogs when on leash and will need training to be around dogs when on leash. When getting closer to the other dog she is curious although it does look like aggressiveness when she first spots the other dog (pulling, lunging, barking). This is the only issue I’ve seen in the two weeks I’ve been fostering her (got her May 25th). Otherwise, she is great when walking, she doesn’t pull at all and very into all the smells and sights around her (again, unless she sees another dog).
Bambi just wants to play and walk: fetch, tug, and wrestle. When you’re busy and not playing with her she doesn’t get into trouble, doesn’t chew on things like furniture/shoes, she takes breaks and afternoon naps, and can busy herself with a bully stick or toy or by watching a window, she loves that too. She can be food and treat motivated, she loves chicken, beef and liver treats, she likes a lot of things, not a picky eater. I’ve seen no diarrhea, solid poops and regular urination schedule. Switched her from Pedigree wet dog food to higher quality Carna 4 kibble.
She’s house trained and crate trained/likes her crate. I only crate her after eating for half an hour to prevent stomach twisting and at night for her 8-9hrs of sleep. She doesn’t cry at night for her family or when left alone in her crate, one day we had a wedding for the majority of the day and there was no bowel accidents and no barking complaints from neighbours.
She knows sit, down, wait and give me paw. I would say her temperament is great, calm, playful and affectionate. She is eager to please and listens well/trains fast although leash reactivity does take time. She is not a barker, we never hear her unless another dog is barking first. I don’t see any signs of aggression or anxiety.
Her family provided the crate, some treats, some toys and a collar. I bought her a harness, dog tag with her name and my contact information, and a stronger leash.
You’re a great fit for Bambi if:
•Ideally, because of her breed, an active family or individual with a decent backyard THAT HAS HAD A DOG BEFORE AND KNOWS HOW TO TRAIN OR WILLING TO HIRE A DOG TRAINER for leash reactivity.
•Another playful dog would be lovely but not necessary.
•Has 1-2 hours to spare each day to play fetch/wrestle/walk Bambi.
•Has the budget for good quality dog food or able to gently cook human food.
Reason for Rehoming::
My aunt rescued Bambi when she was 5 months old. My aunt and teenage cousin love Bambi but they are first time dog owners and didn’t understand the breed, as well as my cousin spent more time with her friends/doing homework and couldn’t prioritize Bambi, understandably as teenagers do.. My aunt is a single parent with two jobs and often picks up evening shifts. Bambi was mostly in her crate during the day and a neighbour would come over daily for an hour to walk/play with Bambi. My aunt lives in a complex with no backyard.
My cousin is aware and agreed to rehome Bambi, although it was a very tough decision for them. My aunt is willing to speak on the phone to whoever takes her but she has mostly left the task to me.
Why I’m not keeping her:
I would love to keep Bambi myself and seriously thought about it because she is that sweet, smart and playful; but with my work schedule and lifestyle, one dog is all I have the energy/budget for.
I’ve asked my circle of friends and family before posting on Kijiji. No luck yet but also waiting to hear back from some friends.
Hopefully the right family/individual comes her way, I’m vetting carefully as I’m a huge animal/dog lover and won’t let her go until the right environment comes along.
Why $300:
I am covering for expenses: the gas/hotel money we spent to pick up Bambi as well as the bath/ear cleaning, ear medication, nail trimming, harness /leash, Carna 4 dog food and bully sticks/treats I paid for ( I have the receipts for everything). Also, originally, my aunt paid $400 for Bambi. No profit being made. Price is negotiable.
Thank you.
