Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Description

Nevaeh and Duchess

A little back story: I came for a visit last May to see my mom. She has 3 Saint Berdoodles (Saint Bernard and Poodle). We got them when we lived in Ontario from a very expensive breeder because I, myself, suffer from post concussion syndrome and wanted possibly a service dog. Turns out, Hugo (he is now 8 and I am keeping him because he is quite elder) ended up a fan of my moms and lived with her.

Well, my mom always loved dogs, and she decided Hugo should have a friend, so we went to the same breeder and got Nevaeh. As my mom was selling her house in Ontario in 2020, it turns out there was an opsie and we found out when she moved to NS. We had puppies and ended up keeping Duchess as we thought she may be blind in one eye. We drove her all the way to New Brunswick to a special vet, and it turns out she can see just fine. She has a brown eye and a blue eye.

Fast forward to this month, my mom unexpectedly passed away at the end of April. The dogs and I are devastated. I have my own two little dogs, so now I have 5 dogs. I am unable to manage 5 dogs nor give them the time and attention they deserve. So, I am looking for a home for hopefully both as they are mother and daughter but may have to separate them if I find the right homes. Please note that they are grieving as well and their personality isn’t as bright as it normally is. They will also need someone with patience and understanding until they get their sass back. Also to note, they are not spayed as we were going to do that this year, but God had other plans.

Nevaeh aka Nevi– She is the one with grey on her. She was my moms little stocky side kick. She has more the poodle type fur and is approximately 6 years old (may be a tad younger). She is a one-person type dog but would fit in a family situation (She will pick a favorite). She loved my mom with everything and would protect her if she needed to. She also played with all the other dogs and would walk off leash for her and her only. She is a great medium sized dog.

Duchess aka Duch Muffin aka Duchy Cake – She answers to all. She has the fur of a poodle but stands quite tall and long like the Bernard. She was born December of 2020 I believe and can try and find it in the FB pictures. She does have a bit wider of a face as well but doesn’t drool when she drinks. She is a silly, playful girl who just wants to be loved. She is, well for me, quite strong on a leash, but my mom could walk her just fine. I think it’s me. She does have a bit of “nighttime anxiety” that’s what I call it. She has her very own pillow and would nibble it before she went to sleep. She never destroyed it; I think it just comforts her.

Vaccines – My mom fostered dogs all my life. Sometimes we had more dogs than house. We were foster fails. We always vaccinated all dogs when the Vets office called. Our dogs mostly passed away from cancer. My mom ended up doing tons of research and she decided once she moved that we would vaccinate all the puppy shots and then do Titer Testing, which indicates if they need a vaccine or not). She did not want to over vaccinate our dogs any longer. As for Duchess, she had her puppy shots and ended up having a bad reaction. We saw a lovely male Vet and he advised us not to give her anymore vaccines as she may have a horrible reaction and could pass away. So, we listened, and she is doing great. They both are. If you wish to test Nev’s titers and if she needs a vaccine, then that’s okay. Duchess can not be vaccinated anymore.

Fleas, ticks etc. – They are all treated yearly for this as we live on 6 acres, and they are quite bad.

I do apologize that this is so long, but I am hoping to find the right home for them. If I do not answer right away, please know I will get back to you.
