For example, on a $120,000 vehicle, the luxury tax would be $4,000. Luxury tax is applied before HST and is calculated on the vehicle?s price plus any manufacturer before-tax rebates. Dealer discount portion of the total discount is not subject to luxury tax. This means you do not pay luxury tax on dealer discounts, but you do pay luxury tax on any manufacturer incentives and on the sale price of the vehicle above $100,000.
