Description
Decided to let my trusty little green machine go after 5 yrs of fun, dependable usage.
I am going to put this front a center before you read any further. The Carfax and Experian reports are attached to this listing. Don't ask me to generate more reports and please, please read to the end before asking any questions !
Now that is out of the way ;
I am the second owner since 2019 and purchased the car with 149,000 KM's. I have proceeded to add another 104,000 with no significant problems. Current ODO is 254,000. Never smoked in or transported animals.
The car drives well and the powertrain is still very healthy. I modified it's appearance to mimic a European style Junior 1600 Rally car so the Hella spot lamps and the Demon Tweeks clubman mudflpas are genuine motorsport items. That coupled with the window tints and the black plasti-dipped wheels give it a very cheeky vibe. I also blacked out all of the chrome piping on the car and removed the Silverado Pick-Up truck sized Chevy bow-tie badges. I fully appreciate that this is not going to be to everybody's taste but it has made the car allot more interesting and coupled with the Lime green paint, this little thing does get a surprising amount of (usually positive) attention ! Mechanically it is completely stock with just a rear muffler delete and custom made stainless braided brake hoses on each corner for better brake feel.
With only 100 BHP it isn't quick by any measure but it is very light (< 1000KG's) and corners + handles very well and with the 5 Speed manual you can really make the most out of the limited power on tap. It is also fantastically fuel efficient. Around 5L/100K's at legal highway speeds. Also surprisingly practical for a compact car because of the hatchback. Rear seats fold completely flat.
Interior is clean and mostly un-altered except for a small OBD II dashboard plug in on the steering shroud that gives extra engine information. Specifically I wanted a coolant temp gauge as the stock clocks don't provide one and can also read engine codes. Saying which I have never had a check engine light since owning it. Winter and summer carpet matts are included. I also wrapped the steering wheel in grip tape as the plastic feels cheap and un-pleasant and I don't trust covers not to slip. easily removed if not to your liking.
The car is winter configured with good winter tires installed (I don't have all seasons for it anymore) and have had the car oilgaurd undercoated every alternate fall. Their is only surface corrosion on the underside of this car on the suspension components and front subframe. Structure of the vehicle is excellent.
I have maintained the car myself except for my 1st yr of ownership where it had a drivetrain warranty that insisted on shop oil changes. I trusted the great Canadian Oil change in Trenton for this and have used engine flush with my own changes since. I have replaced the Air & cabin filter annually. Recent front sway bar links and alignment. Recent new lower oil pan Serpentine drivebelt system with a new water pump are also recent.
I just changed the engine oil + filter before I submitted this listing.
Issues with the car are few but it is almost 10yrs old and has over a quarter million klicks on it so it isn't perfect.
- Cosmetically on the exterior it has a dent in the passenger side rocker that hasn't cracked the paint. That has been there since I have owned it. 1st owner did that. Their are some small stone chips on the leading edge of the hood and upper windshield. Allot of the wheel liner clips have broken over the years and have been replaced with zip ties (they are very cheap and brittle).
- Electronically the only fault is the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors don't work anymore, so the orange tire light is illuminated on the dashboard.
- Mechanically it could use a rear drum brake kit. They are beginning to squeak a little during light breaking. The throw out bearing on the clutch is showing signs of it's age. It is the original clutch to my knowledge and bites and functions perfectly ok, In the interest of transparency I am declaring this as you may hear the slight groan sometimes when you take up drive in reverse gear. The Air conditioning works intermittently. The compressor seized up back in 2021 and I ran it with no A/C for 3 summers but replaced it last yr in 2024 (along with all of the aforementioned serpentine drive system). If you introduce refrigerant it will run cold for a couple of weeks or so but it must have a small leak (despite adding stop leak and a drying agent) so long and short is, it works if you recharge it but not for long. I believe that this car would pass a safety without any major work !
To summarise I honestly declare this as a reliable, fun little 'luke warm' hatch that is very cheap to run. This is a great 1st car for somebody who wants to learn and run something with a manual transmission on a budget that actually has some nice luxuries like Cruise control, central locks, electric windows and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Condition of the sale is I am offering the car as is, not certified with no warranty (offered or implied). Not interested in any trades.
Any extra questions then please ask away. I also have the Autohistoryworld.ca report available if interested.
If the listing is up then the car is still available.
